Greetings from Upstate NY

I recently purchased my first classic car, it just so happened to be a 360! It's super rough (as is typical of older cars in this part of the country), but I fully intend on giving it all the love and attention that it could ever possibly need! a little back story on it: It's a 1969, and was last registered in 1980 in New Jersey. I assume that their registrations last 2 years (like they do here) so it was taken off the road at some point in 1982. the car only has 23000 miles on it!!! however, the last owner of it sold it to a junk yard :( ...but someone bought it before it could be recycled into a god-forsaken kia (or something)! Luckily for the car it sat in an enclosed trailer for the rest of it's life until we came along. the guy decided to sell it for $950! We saw the ad for it on Hemmings.com, and promptly left school to go see it. we bought it then and there, and brought it home in a 5x9 uhaul trailer; behind our Subaru Outback! We immediately knew it was going to be a fun car to own because it was drawing crowds everywhere it went! We're super excited about the car and can't wait to begin a progress thread so you can all enjoy the overhaul with us! wish us luck! and any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Pictures to come :)

Welcome and congratulations! Pictures are well liked on the site. You should also put your location in the box to the left so people know where you are.

Welcome!! Keep us posted on your condition finds, does the engine turn??? If so before spinning it a lot drop the little oil pump, two bolts & make sure that it's not stuck after sitting a long time.

Welcome to The Club! Your 360 looks good considering
what it has been through! Since the engine turns over
you are well on the way to getting it on the road.

Remove both spark plugs, put about a teaspoon full of 2-stroke
oil down each hole, and turn the engine over by hand several
times. Then replace the plugs and let it sit overnite before
tying to start it. Check the timing (13 BTDC is correct) also
before you try to start it.

If you do not have the BOOK OF REPRINTS it is available
for free download or on CD, it will answer at least 95% of
the questions you have about your newest vehicle.

Where upstate NY? My oldest daughter, who took her driver's
license test on a 360 sedan and drove one for years, lives
in Norwich, near Binghamton. There is a great car museum
in Norwich that we go to every time we visit there.

I love how everything other than the 5 boroughs is referred to as "Upstate"..
It should be called "NY" and let the boroughs identify themselves independently.
I get it if you are talking about Warwick, or Port Jervis.. even Hastings.. but if you are further than 80 miles from the city you shouldn't have to say "Upstate"..

I never really understood the designation....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upstate_New_York < ---- doesnt help much either..

lol...

Welcome to the forums from just a hop skip and a jump down Rt 81 from you.

Such a long time ago on this post but we live in the Syracuse area of NY thankfully not in the city... :)
update on the subie the engine is complete and waiting to be installed. we are now trying to tackle the body. we have to weld a patch into the cross member where our front suspension bolts up. and have some spot welding on the firewall. Our rockers will need to be done as well. Engine area seems to have absolutely no rust! we have the windows out the doors off the windshield is a little difficult as the rubber is hard as a rock! And floor panels. quite a bit of work ahead of us but I think if we keep moving forward then we can get this done :)

I say upstate NY because otherwise people think we am from NY City and 80% of the time get the look of disgust when they say "oh...New York..." I almost always have to explain I am not from the city, far from it actually I am about 3 1/2 hours northwest haha I agree with " It should be called "NY" and let the boroughs identify themselves independently." It would help sooooo much with voting situations. :) You are by far the closest person I have met on the forum to me!
